AN ALIEN LOST IN PLACE
LYRICS
I’m an alien, lost in place
Trying to fit in the human race
Navigate the world with a curious gaze
Social cues are hard to embrace
Everyday slang I can’t decode
Eye contact feels like I’ll explode
Crowds are a maze, noise is a tide
In this unsafe place I often hide
I’m an alien, lost in place
Unique rhythm and different grace
Facial expressions a cryptic sea
Emotions are a mystery to me
In an ideal world, differences are good
Aliens like me will be understood
Yearning for steps I can retrace
Hoping to belong, find a safe place
Earthly customs I can’t embrace
To familiarity I’m a closed case
Noise and crowds I cannot face
Any contact is a forbidden place
I’m an alien, lost in place
Unique rhythm and different grace
Facial expressions a cryptic sea
Emotions are a mystery to me
In quiet corners, solace I find
A sanctuary for my restless mind
To bridge our worlds, my heart yearns
A planet where understanding returns
Feel like an alien from outer space
Words twist and turn like a cosmic chase
Lost in translation, a peculiar embrace
Solitude is my saving grace
I’m an alien, lost in place
Unique rhythm and different grace
Facial expressions a cryptic sea
Emotions are a mystery to me
So I navigate this earthly sea
With my quirks and authenticity
Return to a place far beyond
Where understanding people respond
I’m an alien, lost in place
Unique rhythm and different grace….
INSPIRATION
This is the story of a vulnerable kid with ASD who is confused with the world around him. Our great-nephew is 3 years old and was recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). So, our song, “I’m An Alien Lost in Place” is dedicated to Callen to let him know he is loved. The words also apply to any “Stranger in a strange place” (Isaac Asimov). The song “I’m An Alien Lost in Place” is about feeling like an outsider in a world that doesn’t understand you. Where you struggle to fit in, navigate social cues, and decode inside jokes and everyday slang. All of us, but especially people with ASD, can feel like aliens, with unique rhythms and different grace, where facial expressions and emotions are a mystery to be solved. The song is about yearning for a place where differences are understood and embraced, and where understanding people respond. There is a need for greater Autism Awareness and sometimes a song is the perfect vehicle to create awareness. Hopefully, this song will contribute to ASD Awareness. Please become aware of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), even if it’s by listening to our song, “I’m An Alien Lost in Place.”
