Kings And Fools Have Different Rules
LYRICS
I’ve met kings, I’ve met fools,
Each one taught me different rules
One uses wit and the other jewels,
Each one that’s a different duels
Kings wear crowns of jewels so fine,
Fools make laughter their design
We hunt for wisdom under any sign,
Each one looking for their lifeline
In a palace or on the street,
You’ll find wisdom hard to beat
Life’s a mix of different schools,
Kings and fools have different rules
Kings uphold the golden laws,
Fools find ways to give us pause
With each lesson we accrue,
A richer, deeper, brighter view
Kings may say to take is slow,
Fools rush in where the wise don’t go
But who’s a king and who’s a fool,
In life’s ever-changing school
In a palace or on the street,
You’ll find wisdom hard to beat
Life’s a mix of different schools,
Kings and fools have different rules
Kings and fools on different ships,
Listen to their distinct tips
Kings and fools have different rules,
Both can serve as vital tools
In a palace or on the street,
You’ll find wisdom hard to beat
Life’s a mix of different schools,
Kings and fools have different rules
Kings and fools on different ships,
Listen to their distinct tips
Kings and fools have different rules,
Both can serve as vital tools
In a palace or on the street,
You’ll find wisdom hard to beat
Life’s a mix of different schools,
Kings and fools have different rules
Choose your course, old or new.
Wisdom comes in every hue
How you play is up to you,
So king or fool, choose who you’ll be
Each has a truth that sets you free
INSPIRATION
The song started out with me wanting to do something with this trigger: Good people give you happiness, bad people give you experience, the worst people give you a lesson and the best people give you memories. This morphed into: Good folks bring joy to hand, (on demand); Bad folks help you understand; Worst ones show you how to rise; Best ones give you fireflies, which in turn evolved into: Kings and Fools have different rules. This song is about people, and even political parties, that always think they are right and everyone else is wrong. Just because people think differently doesn’t make them wrong. The fact is none of us are right about everything and sometimes we make fools of ourselves with broad generalizations that cannot possibly be true. In most situations, each side typically has a kernel of truth in their argument but neither side has the whole truth. “Kings and Fools” is about the different lessons that can be learned from different people, even those that we consider lower than us. Kings and fools have different rules, and each one can teach us something new. Wisdom can be found in a palace or on the street, as life is a mix of different schools where kings uphold the golden laws, while fools find ways to give us pause, and how both can serve as vital tools. The song encourages us to learn from both as we choose our own course, and how each has a truth that sets us free.
