Bend Dont Break
LYRICS
Shadows of the past, haunt my every move
Untying the knots, trying to improve
Please understand, it’s not about you
I’m learning to love me, and it’s long overdue
I’m a work in progress, imperfect but true
Still finding my way, not yet bulletproof
I’ll weather the storm, my core won’t shake
Give me time to heal, so I bend but don’t break
It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that I’m scared
To let you see the darkness, my soul has been bared
I’m resilient, a spirit that is awake
Give me time to heal, so I bend but don’t break
So I bend but don’t break
I’m trying to heal, but some scars remain
I’m not avoiding you, I’m just healing my pain
Even in adversity, I found strength through the ache
Give me time to heal, so I bend but don’t break
I’m still a work in progress, a puzzle undone
I need to fix myself before We become one
Through life’s trials my ground shakes
Give me time to heal so I bend but don’t break
It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that I’m scared
To let you see the darkness, my soul has been bared
I’m resilient, a spirit that is awake
Give me time to heal, so I bend but don’t break
So I bend but don’t break
Trust that I’m trying, even when I fail
I’ll keep working to mend, but it’s a tough trail
Embracing challenges, a new path I’ll take
Give me time to heal so I bend but don’t break
It’s not that I don’t care it’s just that I’m scared
To let you see the darkness, my soul has been bared
I’m resilient, a spirit that is awake
Give me time to heal so I bend but don’t break
So I bend but don’t break
I am still a work in progress, it’s true
But I promise to keep growing for you
Give me time to heal so I bend but don’t break
Give me time to heal so I bend but don’t break
INSPIRATION
The trigger for this song was the idea of, “trying to overcome shadows of the past that haunt our every move.” We need time to heal before entering a new relationship, so we bend but don’t break, as we are still working on our own issues and find it difficult to take on new issues involved in a new relationship without breaking. This song started out about, “loving ourselves and understanding our needs,” so we first learn to live with ourselves before we try to live with someone else and understand their needs. The theme is resilience, strength, and growth amidst challenges and adversity. “Bend But Don’t Break” is about a journey of healing and self-discovery, as we are all still a work in progress, trying to heal even as some some scars remain. Sometimes it looks like we are avoiding our partner, but in reality we are taking time to heal our own pain. It’s about embracing challenges and taking a new path, and trusting that we are trying, even when we fail, as we keep growing. The song encourages us to bend but not break, and to give ourselves time to heal.
